Harry Tavitian and Orient Express
Ethno- jazz concert

In 1990, Harry Tavitian was described by the International Herald Tribune as the most important jazzman in today's Romania. His music integrates in a personal synthesis a remarkable range of influences.

Tavitian's latest project is Orient Express, which he started in 1990, an ethno-jazz band which is unque in Romania through both repertory and size. Nine of the most talented local musicians join Tavitian in this project.

"I chose them because they are extremely creative, and they all have a propensity for the Romanian and balkanic folk tradition. What unites us is the craft of improvisation. Like the Orient Express train, linking Paris to Istambul, passing through all the major cultural centres of Europe, the music of our band blends Western thinking and Oriental scents."
