Secret
Encounters,
photography by Frans van Heiningen (May 2001)
Looking for the perfect place
could very well be Frans van
Heiningens motto, his photographic guideline. But the purpose
of his quest is always elegantly obscured. The temporarily deserted
places in his photographs look like convoluted layerings of recollections.
What actions have exhausted their energy there, what destinies have
taken a sharp turn in those surroundings? We will perhaps never
know, but all those spaces share the unique quality of welcoming
our projected selves, of bringing forth our memories and dreams.
