Gili & Lumi paintings by Luminita Mihai & Virgil Mocanu (May 2000)

The paintings presented in this exhibition by the artists Gili and Lumi play upon repetition and disruption. The walls of the exhibition space were covered with a harmonoius recurrence of patterns, transforming it for a while in a seemingly familiar, soothing milieu. When a new, potentially threatening figure is inscribed unto the canvas, tranquility is subverted. The exhibition was a successful exercise in the game of establishing a code and then destroying it, or exposing it to the chaos it attempted to hide.
