Video Art: Black Box Recorder,
September 2001, organised by the Toaca Foundation and the British Council

An exhibition of single screen monitor-based works by twelve young British artists (Roderick Buchanan, Adam Chodzo, Mark Dean, Sarah Dobai, Graham Fagen, Douglas Gordon, Graham Gussin, Rachel Lowe, Kenny Macleod, Christina Mackie, Ross Sinclair, Carl von Weiler). Most of these artists were born in the mid-1960s, their life deeply marked by the ever greater impact of the moving image in our day-to-day lives.
Opening in Bucharest after the tragic events in the US, the Black Box Recorder exhibition is both a powerful metaphor and a sad reminder of the device that records flight details as well as of the other black box that dominates so much of our lives, the TV set.
